CSATS Blue card has been replaced with the White Card CPCCOHS1001A Work Safely in the Construction Industry
INTRODUCTION
New requirements for safety training for workers working on construction sites in Western Australia will come into effect in September 2009. To meet these new requirements, this Work Safely in the Construction Industry course has been developed as an enabling course that is nationally accredited. Completion of this course is designed to 'enable' people to work in the building and construction industry.
PEOPLE/TRADES THAT REQUIRE THIS
TRAINING COURSE
Employees, self employed people, supervisors and managers,
Professional consultants who spend time on a construction site eg inspections and audits which require direct and active interaction with the construction process
Casual or part-time building labourers;
labour hire
personnel working on construction sites
Construction work supervisors or foremen
Engineers and surveyors who
carry out preparatory work
Owner on-site to carry out
construction work
On-site installation and
joinery eg installation of cabinets, installation of pre-cast concrete panels (includes use of moving machinery such
as cranes
to deliver and place pre-cast concrete panels
onto site)
Any delivery work involving the movement of
other mobile plant on site
Truck driver who drops off and then
assembles a structure
Window and glass installation
Truss frame installation and assembly
Drainage pipe
laying and installation
Concrete placement and/or laying activities, operation of concrete pump
Installation of fire sprinkler system
Work experience students undertaking
construction work.
PEOPLE/TRADES THAT MAY NOT REQUIRE SAFETY AWARENESS TRAINING
Visitors, couriers, food van employees under escort of supervision
Government Inspectors (eg WorkSafe or
Local Government Building Inspector) or people
authorised to enter a construction site under other legislation/emergency personnel
Consultants/contractors
not carrying out construction work eg trainers,
administrators
Professionals observing work
Professional consultants not carrying out construction work eg interior designers
Owner on-site to inspect progress Component/
pre-fabricated manufacture off-site eg
kitchen cabinets in factory, pre-cast yard
Delivery work involving drop off or pick-up at a designated area only
In some cases,
installation of fire extinguishers -
depending on type of workplace so judgment may be needed
Work experience/practical visits by students not undertaking construction work (and under escort)

COURSE OUTLINES
Element One: Identify OHS Legislative Requirements
� Applicable OHS legislative requiements relevant to own work, role and responsibilities are identified and explained.
� Duty of Care requirements are identified and explained
� Own responsibilities to comply with safe work practices are identified and explained.
Element Two: Identify Construction Hazards and Control Measures
� Basic principles of risk management are identified and explained
� Common Construction Hazards are identified and explained
� Measures for controlling hazards and risks identified and explained
Element Three: Identify OHS Communication and Reporting Processes
� OHS communication processes, information and documentation are identified and explained
� Role of designated OHS personnel is identified and explained
� Safety signs & symbols are identified and explained
� Procedures and relevant authorities for reporting hazards, incidents and injuries are identified and explained
Element Four: Identify OHS Incident Response Procedures
� General procedures for repsonding to incidents and emergencies are identified and explained
� Procedures for first aid are identified and explained
� Requirements for the selction and use of relevant personal protective equipment are identified and demonstrated
� Fire safety equipment is identified and explained
A short written assessment will be conducted at the end of the course.
Certification
All certification achieved by Participant/s remains the sole property of the participant/s. Employers can for HR purposes retain a copy but all originals must be presented to the participant/s. The Blue Card course has been replaced with this national card (White Card) all details are available on the Worksafe website
